Dr. Vinay Matai is a third year Podiatric Surgery Resident at MedStar Washington Hospital Center During his residency, he has focused on diabetic limb salage. Although he has been well trained in all areas of podiatric surgery from complex rearfoot reconstructive surgery to forefoot surgery, he has developed a passion for preventative medicine and diabetic limb salvage.
Stemmed from the interest of preventative medicine, he was invited to the Telluride Patient Safety Conference in Telluride, Co, which shifted his way of approaching and treating patients. During this week long round table, he grew compassionate about informed consent and informed decision-making. He realized the importance of providing patients along with their families adequate information when it came to dealing with Diabetes and amputations.
He has held various executive positions throughout his undergraduate and graduate career. While at MedStar, Dr. Matai has gained interest in patient safety and quality improvement projects. He is one of the chairs on the Quality Improvement Patient Safety Council and plans to grow the organization through strategic marketing and social media.
After graduating from residency he wishes to continue teaching younger residents and students the importance of patient safety in his profession.
